A 7.85 inch iPad rumor is nothing new to anyone because it has been swirling around from a long long time. We’ve been hearing about a possible smaller version of iPad aka “iPad Mini” from over an year or so. So far no report carry a solid evidence which can prove the existence of such device. But today John Gruber of Daring Fireball shared something really interesting. In a podcast John Gruber left some comments on the existence of 7.85 inch iPad.
Here’s what John Gruber said:
“What I do know is that they have one in the lab, a 7.85″ iPad that runs at 1024 x 768. And it’s just like the 9.7-inch iPad shrunk down a little bit. The apps wouldn’t need to be redesigned or recompiled to work on it — it’s just the iPad smaller.”
Gruber has well connected sources in Apple and he often gets his hands on pre released Apple products. But before you jump to any conclusions you should know that if a prototype is in Apple’s lab that doesn’t mean it will make it’s way to shelves. It is still not sure whether Apple has “any” plans to release it or not. A 7.85 1024×768 display is perfect for all Apps which are available in App Store right now which means if Apple ever releases this alleged 7.85 inch iPad it will support all apps out of the box. This is also a relief for iOS developers because there’s no need of optimizing their Apps for an iPad with 1024×768 iPad.
Some reports also mentioned that this new iPad mini would cost $299 which would a new price tag for Apple because currently no Apple product is available on this price tag.
No further details regard this product are currently available but a bigger question here would be; why Apple is planning to release a 7.85 inch iPad? Is it going to take on Amazon’s Kindle Fire market or is it going to create a new space of it’s own. As I mentioned details about this product are scant.
