Whether you prefer to carry around an iPhone or an iPod touch to assist you in your daily life we all know that we rely on our iOS devices a great deal. And the devices are surely up to the task. However, when the battery dies things cannot get more frustrating! So here are a few things you can do to make sure this doesn’t happen to you.
Accessories:
1- Car Charger:
If you have a car and an iOS device then you should probably be getting a car charger. Some of these can be a bit too expensive but there are some cheap ones out there too. Visit sites like Amazon and you will surely find a car charger at a suitable price. This accessory is really worth the hassle. Having a car charger will save you from standing helpless when your device?s battery dies out at times when you might really need it!
2- Battery Pack:
This accessory is basically a case with a built-in battery. These cases do not look as appealing as the traditional ones. They tend to be a bit more bulky and a little pricey too. However, you might want to consider this option if you are planning on being away from a power supply for some time. You can try Juice Pack Air battery pack by Mophie if you feel this option suits you.
Settings:
If you are like me, tend to be in situation where your battery is dying and you are nowhere near your car and don?t have any accessory to charge your iOS device don?t panic. You can save the rest of your battery that might buy you some time till you have a power supply.
1- Quit Background Applications:
You can do this by simply double clicking on your Home Button and this should take you to your multitask panel. Then hold down any icon till the icons begin to jiggle. Next tap the red minus sign. This should end all your applications. This step is particularly important if you are running applications like Skype that consume a lot of your battery?s power.
2- Brightness:
This is something most of you already know. When your battery is about to die it is not wise to keep your background brightness at the highest level. You can adjust that through Settings> Brightness.
3- Wi-Fi connection:
Sometimes you know for sure that you are in a place with no Wi-Fi network coverage. If you happen to be in one of these places, turning your Wi-Fi off will help save a lot of what is left of your battery?s power as it will save your device from having to search for an available connection. However, if you are around a Wi-Fi network and have a 3G connection, keep your Wi-Fi turned on as a Wi-Fi connection uses less energy than the 3G connection.
4- 3G connection:
If you know that you will not need a 3G connection (you are not using the App Store or connecting to the internet for example) then you should turn off you 3G and use Wi-Fi. This trick is a huge battery saver. If you are using your iPhone consider exchanging your 3G connection with Edge. This is not the best way to connect to the internet but is good enough to do simple things such as checking your email or texting and will definitely be a great help when you are stuck in a critical situation and just need to be saved by a phone call.
When you are in an area that has no coverage, turn on the Airplane Mode. It is very common when you are on road trips that you cross an area that has no coverage. You can save a lot of you battery power by saving your phone from struggling to find a connection.
5- Push notifications:
Most of us don?t need to be continuously alerted with a buzz to tell us the latest news. If you happen to have one of these push notifications such as New York Times, consider turning them off especially when you are in a situation where you are trying to save as much battery power as you can.
I was one of the those people who always have their battery dying in the middle of the day and remain frustrated for the rest of the day about it. These few easy tricks really helped me out. Hope you found them useful too.
