RecognizeMe 2.0 Adds Facial Recognition Capability On iPhone Running iOS 5

Now this jailbreak tweak is sure going to delight a lot of fans especially those who are into Sci-tech stuff, as it’s pretty cool, and the feature is still kind of a novelty in phones, even though Smartphones have evolved astonishingly over the last few years. The jailbreak tweak that i am talking about is called as RecognizeMe 2.0, and it’s a facial recognizing software that lets you add an extra layer of protection to your iPhone, along with your orthodox 4 digit password that everyone is accustomed to. Now this sure feels like an iPhone straight out of a James bond movie!

RecognizeMe 2.0 is the brainchild of developer Chris Simpson, better known as “Apocolipse” in the developer community. This is actually the second version of the original RecognizeMe jailbreak tweak which was released back last year, and it has still been met with the same enthusiasm that it was met with back when it was released last year. So I guess it’s a safe to assume that it’s a popular jailbreak tweak amongst the users.

RecognizeMe 2.0

So the working of RecognizeMe 2.0 is pretty straight forward, as it utilizes the front camera of a jailbroken iOS device to scan your face, and then match it with your face pattern stored in its database on the iDevice. So it basically works as an added security feature in lieu with the password lock.

RecognizeMe 2.0 is a lot better than its predecessor which was buggy and had a low success rate for facial identification. This time around however, the developer has made quite a few changes that have improved it’s functionality a lot. It now features an extra training system that you can use to teach your facial features to RecognizeMe 2.0, for better and faster results. It does that by taking various snapshots of your melon as shown in the picture below.

RecognizeMe 2.0Android’s Ice Cream Sandwich does have a similar facial detection system but as of now, there is no such alternative for iOS other than RecognizeMe 2.0. To use this you would obviously have to have an iDevice with a front facing camera and must be jailbroken to the latest version of iOS 5.
