Apple Testing iPads Running iOS 6 (Report)

The launch of the new iPad 3, or whatever name it will turn out to be,is front page news with the official launch date only a few days away. Speculations about what the device might hold are still coming in. So far, we are expecting iPad 3 to feature a Retina Display, a larger battery, a better processor and an 8 megapixel camera. But what about the iOS this new tablet will be running?



Previous rumors have it that we’ll be getting an iOS 5.1 release along with the new iPad. However, today a new report by ArsTechnica opened the door for more talks on that matter. The guys at ArsTechnica claim that Apple is testing iPad device at the company’s headquarters running a new iOS version, iOS 6 .This was revealed through web logs on the site.

We began looking at iPad user agents coming from Apple’s corporate IP block in Cupertino and discovered that Apple appears to be surfing the Web using iPads running what looks like iOS 6.0. The whole listing shows iPads running iOS 5, iOS 5.0.1 (the current public release), iOS 5.1 (the upcoming release currently available to developers), and iOS 6. The iPads that appear to be running iOS 6 are also using a slightly newer build of WebKit—the older OSes all show WebKit 534.46, while the ones claiming to be iOS 6 show WebKit build 535.8.

The report adds that the site’s web logs showed also a device running a 2084×1536 Retina Display which emphasizes previous rumors claiming we are getting double the resolution of the current iPad 2.

Of course that doesn’t mean that iOS 6 will be released next week. It will surely not! The release of iOS 6 needs a bunch of beta releases before it. But wait, can we see iOS 6 beta 1 release? Let us know your thoughts!

Remember with iOS 5 release, Apple added over 200 new features, the most prominent of which were the Norification center and iMessages, if iOS 6 turns out to be true, I wonder what else they will add. It will definitely be something good.
